Artist's Comments

Prominences, corona and "first light" during a total solar eclipse 1999 in Turkey.
The telescope was small and rather cheap.

This is an overworked version of [link] . I hope you all like it. If you don't, tell me..if you do, tell me too. ;)

For another shot of this awesome phenomenon look at Fiery Ball

A detail preview for the print can be seen here [link] .

Wow, this is really cool.

Before I read your description, I thought it was a ring or some kind of round metal, but reality is much better.

This is an amazing shot, and you were lucky to be where you were!

Kudos!

Bekca.

Thanks :)
I was there just because of this eclipse...however the weather could have been bad, but it wasn't. Although: there was kind of super cell or whatever half the way to the horizon...with thunder (well, propably - it was too far away to hear), rain and lightning but it stayed exactly there for several days, driving us to fear until the last few hours before the eclipse...

[Doh, the second time now that I replied to myself what I wanted to reply to a comment - what's up with my brain?? Sorry ]

Thanks :)

I've never seen an eclipse, it must've been really cool to see one so complete.

It was awesome and strange to see a glowing ring instead of a sun at the dark sky at 4:00 pm. Kinda surreal.

are those red spots protuberations?...

Yepp! Not too many big protubrances partying around on sun this day :( (that is meant relative, the little guy to the right, just below the glare, is about 2 earths in length :) ).
Some of the other images show them clearer (and a bigger corona...on this image it isn't half as beautiful as it was to the naked eye) but you know my problems about keeping the negatives alive... :XD:
This image has it's beauty but I'm going to try to submit another one, more focused on the protuberances - if can find it and it's in good condition :XD:
