Yay, another studio macro which turned out to my satisfaction! :D
The only light I used was a thing to view x-ray photos with - I placed a transparent film container on it and on that the little butterfly which has been cooled down in the refrigerator to make it stay (thanks to for sharing that trick).

was the butterfly alive? :(

Wonderful

Yes it was, putting it into the refrigerator just slowed it down so that there is no motion blur. It recovered soon enough... :P

Thank you! :)
Umm, I have the idea to use this light source from...you?! Didn't you make your latest spider series with something similar?
My father was a doctor before he became a pensioner  and before he gave our practice to another doctor for rent, he took this light-thingy with him because he knew that he/we could use it like this.
However, it's in principle just a box with (special?) neon bulbs and a matte piece of glas or plastic in front of it.
As a similar but much smaller light source you could use the backlight of a common scanner which has the abillity to scan negatives.
The way it lights objects is quite crazy, yes, I must go and do some more shots today! :excited:
I performed a custom WB directly on this light source but you know, my images are always more or less edited...the colours were still a bit wrong and in addition to the basic corrections, I decreased the saturation in less saturated areas and increased it in more saturated areas (using PixInsight). This made most of the butterfly even more monochrome but preserved the coloured "iro" (it was quite monochrome from the beginnig but not enough :P ...the other way, increasing the over-all saturation lead to a weird coloured butterfly...and I disliked it very much).

What is this 50´mm lens? some f:1,8, AF? because I'm using f:2 and it is really old one :/ I think because of it the quality may not be really good. How was the raw image looking like? what was the contrast and resolution? and what f number in your 50mm did you use?
