An old photo I shot on a holiday in sweden where I took this camera to make my first guided astroshots. It was summer and suddenly there was this nice thunderstorm above our tiny 1-road-and-6-buildings-village (but it has a sign with a real name!! ).
I had a hard job in correcting colour and lens obstruction on this image. The noisefilter destroyed much detail in the grass and trees but I think the whole image looks better this way. I'm still not satisfied because it didn't turn out too good, but I did my best...
It's called 'Rainbow Deluxe' because one can see the secondary rainbow and what I know as 'interference rainbow': look at the colours and you may see (depending on your monitor, your eyes, your attention and of course the part of the rainbow you look at ) them in this order: red-orange-yellow-green-purple-green-purple! There where about 3 or 4 repetitions of green-purple visible to the eye...unfortunately not to the camera
The inner area of the main rainbow is brighter than the outer area - this is because the raindrops refract the sunlight towards the center of the rainbow.
The title text is coloured using the real colours of this rainbow (copied a part of it, resized/rotated it and inserted it as a layer set to the mode 'colour' over the text)!
Updated (13.03.2006): I kinda split the image into sky and terrain, I left the old sky but for the terrain now I took the luminance data of the raw image (no noisefilter) and corrected the lens obstruction again. Now you see a noisefiltered sky (were the film grain otherwise would be clearly visible) with a non noisefiltered terrain (were the film grain without the filter isn't too prominent).

Nice shot indeed! This is a beautiful example of a full rainbow. Dull as it seems, a rainbow has muh to offer! You know, I often search the sky for these type of phenomena, like Parry arcs, sundogs etc. These are great! I once saw a moondog (like a sundog, only at night). There's a simulation program, HaloSim, if you want to see more of this...

wow, nice shot - in fact one of the best shot of rainbow... it's a pity that quality is not so good... anyway once I've seen something about 4 rings at the same time!

Thank you! I know HaloSim, I know it!!! *Every* time I go through the door, out of the house, my first glance is up to the sky: "Are there clouds? Beautiful clouds?? Where is the moon? Are there halos?". I already saw a few sundogs, moondogs and several other simple halos (22 ° and 46 ° circular), often you can see rather small cirrus clouds providing an area just for small pieces of halos. The most complex halo I ever saw was one I clearly identified as the one described through this HaloSim file: "Liljequist parhelia.sim". I saw it at night. I've told a few people here on DA about HaloSim...how long do you know it? Can it be that you are one of these people, I can't remember...or have we really discovered this program independentally
Oh, well, where tall buldings are rare, just open your eyes...unfortunately the first condition is a really big problem, I do not travel much, this sweden holiday and the eclipse in turkey were exceptional travels I don't even have a car
But I'm glad that you like this one
Oh man, this damn grass is soooo green I tried to increase the over-all saturation but this green was...well, it was already very green before my postprocessing. I tried to decrease the saturation of this special green. But because the rainbow is a *rainbow* I wasn't able to correct this strong green in the way that the rainbow wasn't affected by this too...grrr.
